The government has submitted an amendment proposal that would exclude protests from the most important, symbolic public squares of Budapest during national holidays. Furthermore, it would empower local governments to remove further areas a no-protest zone.

On 13 June 2017, the Hungarian National Assembly (Parliament) adopted the Act LXXVI of 2017 on the Transparency of Organisations Supported from Abroad (hereinafter: the Law). It obliges associations and foundations that receives at least 7.2 million HUF annually from foreign source to register with the court as an organization receiving foreign funding, to annually report about their foreign funding, and to indicate the label “organization receiving foreign funding” on their website and publications. The list of foreign funded NGOs is also published on a government website.

With the use of the military inside the country and the reclassification of illegal border crossing from an offence to a crime, the government would put in force totalitarian practices before the change of the regime. Therefore, TASZ calls upon the parliamentarians to reject a law which ignores the basic requirements of constitutionality in light of the human rights crisis produced by the high number of refugees.

The Hungarian government has filled the Constitutional Court with loyal judges to create a judicial rubber stamp for government interests, according to a study by Hungarian NGOs of recent Constitutional Court decisions.

The Hungarian Supreme Court has once again nullified certain sections of a regulation issued by the municipality of Budapest that marks the illicit zones where sleeping on the street may be punished.

The European Union (EU) is premised on the respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights— including the rights of persons belonging to minorities. EU Member States share these values: they are societies committed to pluralism, the prohibition of discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity, and gender equality. Lately, these fundamental values have been systematically disrespected in Hungary.

Az Európai Unió alapértékei ma Magyarországon alig érvényesülnek. Ennek alátámasztására négy magyar civil jogvédő szervezet, a Társaság a Szabadságjogokért, a Magyar Helsinki Bizottság, az Eötvös Károly Intézet és a Mérték Médiaelemző Műhely összefoglalta azokat a legfontosabb kormányzati és jogalkotási lépéseket 2010-ig visszamenően, amelyek szembemennek a közös európai értékekkel.

Az Európai Parlament október 21-i plenáris ülésének egyik témája Magyarország lesz: "Democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights in Hungary".A TASZ kiemelt jelentőséget tulajdonít annak, hogy a magyar demokráciával és joguralommal, valamint a szabadságjogok magyarországi helyzetével kapcsolatos minden értékelés, ami a közvéleményben, a médiában, vagy a képviseleti szervekben megfogalmazódik, a lehető legszélesebb körű és szakmailag megalapozott információkon alapuljon. Ennek érdekében - másokkal együtt - évek óra készítünk az országban zajló közjogi folyamatokról elemzéseket. Legutóbb a Magyar Helsinki Bizottsággal, az Eötvös Károly Intézettel és a Transparency International-lel közösen készítettük el a kormánykritikus civileket ért állami támadások kronológiáját, amit most az EP képviselőinek is elküldünk, hogy a Magyarországról szóló vitájuk során minél több megfontolást érvényesíthessenek.

Az Európai Biztonsági és Együttműködési Szervezet (EBESZ) nemzetközi emberi jogi tanácskozásán a magyarországi civil szervezetek mellett a külföld képviselői sem hagyták szó nélkül a magyar kormány civil társadalom ellen tett intézkedéseit.

Today the European Court of Human Rights concluded Hungary was in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights due to the premature termination of the Hungarian Supreme Court’s President’s mandate in early 2012. The judgment confirms concerns of the HHC, the HCLU and the Eötvös Károly Institute that Mr Baka’s dismissal violated the independence of the judiciary, and was a further step in weakening the rule of law in Hungary.
