Evo Morales Presents Coca-products at the UN

The president of Bolivia is addressing the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna – watch his speech with English subs!

16x9

Evo Morales, the president of Bolivia attended the 55th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), the annual UN meeting on drug policies in Vienna. On 12 March he spoke at the plenary session and tried to convince government delegates to support his cause: to legally regulate the cultivation, production and trafficking of Coca-leafs, the ancient herb of Andean people. He claimed Coca is part of Bolivia's cultural heritage and as such, it is protected by the new constitution. Bolivia is the first country to resign from the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, an international treaty that condemns the chewing of Coca leaf. Morales says this is a historical error to be corrected but his country will not legalize Cocaine too – after resigning the Convention they will re-enter it with a reservation about Coca-leaf.

The HCLU filmed his speech at the CND and Espolea helped us produce English subtitles (you can turn them on/off by clicking the CC button) – please watch and share it now!
