International acknowledgement: HCLU in the management of INCLO

Dr. Stefánia Kapronczay, the executive director of HCLU, was appointed co-president of INCLO (International Network of Civil Liberties Organizations). INCLO is working to support the domestic activities of human rights organizations on an international level, and make their voices heard.

From their work in their respective home countries, the ten member organizations have decades of experience in protecting civil liberties. All member organizations are active in various fields of human rights, are operating in connection with several groups of society, and are independent from governments. INCLO member organizations: American Civil Liberties Union (USA), Association for Civil Rights in Israel (Israel), Canadian Civil Liberties Association (Canada), Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (Argentina), Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (Egypt), Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (Hungary), Irish Council for Civil Liberties (Ireland), Kenya Human Rights Commission (Kenya), Legal Resource Center (South Africa), Liberty (UK).

The challenges faced by the protectors of human rights are very similar, whether in Hungary, in Egypt or the United States. Recognizing this, INCLO was founded to support its member organizations and enhance their domestic performance. This is important not only in terms of the work performed for the protection and expansion of civil liberties, but also in connection to the basis of the organizations’ operation.

HCLU, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, finds participation in the leadership of this network to be a highly important opportunity. We believe we can be more efficient in enforcing civil liberties through international cooperation and joint efforts.
