With 91 NGO worldwide, HCLU called on the UN Human Rights Council in a joint statement to establish a new mandate of a Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy.
The UN General Assembly has already recognized that the right to privacy is one of today's critical human rights problem, which can only be solved by global efforts.
According to the signatory organizations the new Special Rapporteur would enable the United Nations to play a leading role in strengthening the promotion and protection of the right to privacy with special regard to provide authoritative guidance to States and non-state actors, particularly business.
